Walker Restorative Training & Practice cic. (Not for Profit)

Working in restorative practice for more than 25 years within the ethics and principles of the Restorative Justice Council:

Restorative Approaches:

"The most inclusive term. Reflecting the underlying mindset overarching philosophy that can guide an organisation or system — be it a school, workplace, or care service—in integrating restorative values into its culture, structure, and policies. A restorative approach combines both restorative practice and justice mechanisms, applying them systematically to create a supportive environment that prioritises relationships and accountability"

(Restorative Justice Council 2025)

Responsibility . Reparation . reintegration

About

Our Story

Tony began using restorative approaches more than twenty-five years ago in a range of situations; Police Cautions, (young people and adults), Police Complaints, Staff Conflict, Community Problem Solving, and Sensitive and Complex crimes.

Kathryn had previous experience from working with long term and life sentenced prisoners and their families. Also bringing vast experience of youth offending and responses to that through research involving incarcerated youths and disconnected adolescents and children struggling in communities.

We launched Walker Research and Training (WRT) in 2001 introducing the first delivery of restorative practice to children’s residential care homes and training police services beginning with Hertfordshire and Devon and Cornwall respectively.

As well as delivery of training, our research arm of WRT performed a full evaluation of the National Safer Schools Partnership Initiative, implementing Restorative Approaches for Police Officers and Staff for use in schools on behalf of the Youth Justice Board.

Other research and evaluations included the effectiveness of community offending programmes in Oxfordshire and London.

We have written and delivered bespoke training for a wide range of organizations and individuals including Police Officers, Youth Justice Service workers, Looked after Children, Local Authorities, Teachers, Workplace (private and public sector) Faith and Community leaders, Elite Level Sports Associations including Premier League Football Clubs and Voluntary groups.

Tony has worked with the Audit Commission, Home Office Training and Accreditation Policy Development Group, Youth Justice Board and DfE in delivering Restorative Approaches nationally and developing National Policy.

He also Chaired the Restorative Justice in the Criminal Justice System Workstream as member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group Advisory Board and is a Registered Advanced Practitioner and Registered Case Supervisor with the Restorative Justice Council.

As a partnership we have worked overseas with The Channel Islands and the Isle of Mann, Norwegian Mediation and Police Service, Czech Probation Service, New Zealand Restorative Justice Trust, Various Police Forces in British Columbia, Prisons and Probation Services in Anguilla, Turks and Cacaos, Canada and presented to international conferences in the USA, Finland, Belgium, and the Czech Republic.

Most recently we have also been invited to deliver Training and Consultancy in the National Health Service, and a Homeless Charity providing services for vulnerable women. We also form part of the RJC team contracted to deliver Case Supervision for facilitators in the Post Office Horizon IT Restorative Justice programme.
